By the end of the novel, I felt as if I would actually miss reading about Eadlyn and her future endeavors as queen. I think the character growth in Eadlyn was my favorite part of this continuation of Kiera Cass’s Selection Series. She held no grudge towards her obnoxious brother Ahren who eloped at the end of The Heir, and showed nothing but love for him and his wife. By the end of the book, Eadlyn had learned to let other people in, and created long lasting friendships and bonds with the suitors that she eliminated along the way. The one thing I hoped for going into The Crown was character growth, and Kiera Cass delivered. She was rude to everyone around her, and didn’t even value the simplest things. If you read my previous review on The Heir, you would know I didn’t have warm and fuzzy feelings for Eadlyn as I headed into this novel. She follows her own heart and marries her true love, who ended up not even being a suitor of the selection! This was perhaps my favorite plot twist that Kiera Cass has written thus far. In the end of the book, we find that Eadlyn has evolved from a spoiled, ungrateful brat into a more mature and loving young lady.

One turn that I didn’t quite expect was when Eadlyn was granted the full power of being queen, and in turn became ruler of Illea. This book picks up on the selection process with Eadlyn looking to quickly narrow down the number of suitors in the palace in hopes of finding the right one. Along with her current selection process, Eadlyn has a whirlwind of things to deal with. Eadlyn visits her mother in the hospital, fearful of her weak condition. This book quickly picks up from where The Crown left off. This book is the end to Eadlyn’s selection process as she continues to narrow down the wide array of suitors, eventually finding her future husband. The Crown continues after a huge cliffhanger that ended The Heir. Eadlyn feels as if her world is falling apart, for how could her parents invite 35 young bachelors into the royal palace as they try to win her hand in marriage? It’s just soooo unfair! Throughout The Heir, Eadlyn begins to open up to her once unwelcome visitors, and finds that trusting others may not be as bad as she once imagined. Although Eadlyn believes she does not need a companion to rule beside her, unrest across the kingdom left no choice but for her parents to introduce a selection, in order to calm the public. Eadlyn Schreave is to become ruler of Illea. This YA romance takes place about twenty years after the events in The Selection series, as Eadlyn, America Singer’s daughter, is thrust into a selection of her own. Because this is a review of the second book, it greatly relies on previous events that occurred in The Heir, so again, there will be spoilers. It is also the companion to The Heir which is the first book in this selection companion series. But those who don't enjoy love triangles will be happy to see that one's ended, while Aspen remains loyally and dutifully by America's side.Note: This book takes place after Kiera Cass’s selection series, and may contain spoilers in reference to the events that took place in The Selection, The Elite, and The One (all written by Kiera Cass). As for Aspen, some readers might be disappointed that he's been relegated to a secondary role in this novel. Because of this, Maxon has grown to become a worthy partner for America and vice versa. But all Maxon has ever wanted is to choose the bride he loves and wants, as well as peace in Illea. However, there are times that readers might want Maxon to grow a spine and stand up to his father, especially when he puts down America. Even though readers might be sad to see these characters go, The One is a book they will thoroughly enjoy by rooting for America and Maxon to be together. The One also ups the romance of America and Maxon, making this novel a lot more swoon-worthy.

We meet new characters and some familiar faces from the previous novels. The story moves at a fast pace in The One, and it's a solid and exciting conclusion to the popular series.
